John Carrington

As CEO and Director, John Carrington leads the energy storage and analytics movement at Stem. With more than 25 years of leadership experience at technology, energy and industrial companies, John comes to Stem from MiaSole, the world’s largest CIGS-based thin film solar company, where he was CEO and Director. Prior to MiaSole, John was Executive Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at First Solar, where he grew the company revenue from $250 million to more than $2 billion, and opened markets in the U.S., Asia and Europe. John spent over 16 years at General Electric, most recently as General Manager and Chief Marketing officer of the $7 billion GE Plastics, where he led global innovation, new technology efforts and product strategy. John was part of a small executive team that executed on the $12 billion sale of GE Plastics to SABIC in 2007. He is an alumnus of the University of Colorado, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing and economics.

Chief Operating Officer

Michael Carlson

As Stem’s Chief Operating Officer, Michael Carlson manages the company’s day-to-day operations, program execution, deployment, and manufacturing. A global business executive, Michael brings 30 years of experience in finance, technology, and operations management across multiple industries and specifically 20 years of energy expertise in leveraging technology to drive value through business transformation and grid modernization. Prior to joining Stem, Michael served as Vice President at Koch Engineered Solutions, where he defined and executed the Electric Technologies strategy with an emphasis on Operational Technology software solutions. He also spent more than 12 years at General Electric, Siemens, and ABB, where he was responsible for global software strategies and solutions, product management, and delivery services. Across these roles, he transformed software solutions using advanced technologies to digitalize operations for the energy grid. Michael holds a B.S. in Business Administration with emphases in accounting, management, and computer science from Union College and an MBA in Finance from Pepperdine University.

Chief Financial Officer

Bill Bush

As Stem’s Chief Financial Officer, Bill Bush manages the company’s corporate and project financing efforts, guiding Stem from a startup to a $300 million-invested leader in the energy storage industry. Before joining Stem, Bill spent more than seven years as CFO of Borrego Solar Systems Inc., where he helped the company achieve 10 times growth and profitability. He was previously CFO of Solar Semiconductor Inc., a leading private, vertically integrated manufacturer and distributor of high-quality PV modules and systems with operations in India, helping it break $100 million in sales in less than 15 months. Bill has served as CFO for numerous high-growth solar, software, and online media companies, and was a founder of Buzzsaw.com, a spinoff of Autodesk. Prior to his work with Buzzsaw.com, Bill served as Corporate Controller for Autodesk, Inc. and worked for seven years in public accounting with Ernst & Young (EY) and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Bill holds a B.S. in business administration from UC Berkeley and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Chief Technology Officer

Larsh Johnson

As Chief Technology Officer, Larsh Johnson leads hardware and software engineering to meet the unique needs of Stem’s C&I, utility and energy market customers. Prior to joining Stem, Larsh was Chief Technology Officer at Siemens Digital Grid, where he led technology development teams on products spanning from consumer metering, demand response and analytics to control center software and grid automation. He joined Siemens via the acquisition of eMeter, a Bay Area software company of which he was a co-founder and responsible for innovation and development of meter data management, analytics and advanced smart grid applications. Prior to eMeter, he co-founded CellNet Data Systems, a pioneer in wireless networks for smart metering and distribution automation and now a unit of Landis+Gyr. Larsh was a founding member of the Department of Energy’s Gridwise Architecture Council (GWAC) and remains a member emeritus. He earned his B.S. and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University.

Chief Legal Officer and Secretary

Saul Laureles

Saul Laureles serves as Stem’s Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary. In this role, Saul leads the company’s global legal function, including corporate governance, securities and mergers & acquisitions (M&A), as well as environmental, social, and governance compliance. Saul brings more than 20 years of legal and strategic business experience including handling complex legal and financial matters and advising executives and board members. Before joining Stem, Saul served as Director, Corporate Legal Affairs and Assistant Corporate Secretary at Schlumberger Limited, the world’s leading oilfield services company, which he joined in 2007. Saul earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Chief Strategy Officer

Prakesh Patel

Prakesh Patel has been Chief Strategy Officer for Stem since 2020. Previously, Mr. Patel was Stem’s Vice President of Capital Markets and Strategy from 2013 to 2020, in which role he led Stem’s financial strategy and supported corporate fundraising initiatives, structuring its first project finance facilities and helping to secure more than $200 million in equity financing for Stem. Mr. Patel has spent his career financing technology and energy ventures at the cross section of multiple industries. Before joining Stem, from 2010 to 2013, he served on the investment team at Angeleno Group, an energy and natural resources-focused private equity firm, during which time he led their investment in Stem. Previously, Mr. Patel built and managed a portfolio of private equity investments at New Bridge Investments from 2008 to 2010 and Deutsche Bank from 2005 to 2008. Mr. Patel has a B.A. from UC Berkeley and an M.B.A. from Yale University.

Chief Revenue Officer

Alan Russo

Alan Russo serves as Chief Revenue Officer at Stem, leading the expansion of Stem’s markets in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia. Before joining Stem in 2018, he led sales and marketing for REC Solar, a wholly owned subsidiary of Duke Energy. Previously, Alan was Vice President of Strategic Accounts for Bloom Energy. During his 10-year tenure, he led the development and deployment of hundreds of fuel cell systems at critical facilities around the U.S. Earlier in his career, Alan also led Asia commercial operations for American Power Conversion, a Schneider Electric company, managing over 350 employees. Alan earned his B.S. in aerospace engineering from Boston University.

Chief People Officer

Kim Homenock

Kim Homenock serves as Stem’s Chief People Officer. In this role, Kim oversees the global HR team with a focus on organizational development, global talent acquisition, training, diversity & inclusion, and enhancing the employee experience at Stem. Kim brings 20 years’ experience in senior human resources leadership positions. Before joining Stem, Kim held senior positions at Amazon’s Devices Software & Services and Transportation divisions as well as GE’s Power Conversion and Renewables divisions. Kim earned a BA from Brunel University London.

Vice President, Corporate Development

Matt Tappin

Matt Tappin serves as Stem’s Vice President of Corporate Development. In this role, Matt will lead the development and execution of the company’s inorganic growth strategy, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), investments, joint ventures, and related matters. Matt brings significant experience in developing corporate strategy related to the energy transition and executing those plans to drive growth. Prior to joining Stem, he held senior corporate development positions at Royal Dutch Shell, where he focused on investments in the electricity sector, and Centrica, where he led corporate development for the distributed energy business globally. In these roles, he combined strategy development with transaction execution, completing a range of corporate acquisitions, investments, partnerships, and new business initiatives. Earlier in his career, he was an investment banker in Lazard’s Power, Energy & Infrastructure Group and a corporate attorney at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. Matt earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis.

David Buzby

David has been starting, building and investing in “impact” businesses for the last 33 years with an emphasis on renewable energy generation, energy storage/grid services, decarbonizing the built environment, recycling, carbon removal and lithium production.

He currently also sits on the Board of Climate Transition Capital Acquisition I B.V. (AEX: CTAI), Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. II (NASD:SVII) and Leading Edge Equipment Technologies (private).

In the past, he has been an early investor and board member in Sunrun Inc. (NASDAQ: RUN); a founding investor, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, of SunEdison (NASDAQ: SUNE) before selling to MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. (NYSE: WFR); and a founding investor, board member and chair of the audit committee of ValueClick (NASD: VCLK) before selling to Alliance Data Systems Corporation (NYSE: ADS); as well as an investor and board member of numerous private companies. He has also held senior executive roles in numerous companies, including Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Buzby received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1988 and a B.A. from Middlebury College in 1982.

Adam E. Daley

Adam E. Daley is a Partner at Magnetar Capital, Co-Head of Magnetar’s Energy & Infrastructure Group and a member of Magnetar’s management and investment committees. Since joining Magnetar at its inception in 2005, Mr. Daley has been focused primarily on the sourcing, execution and management of various investments in the energy, energy infrastructure and renewables sectors. Mr. Daley is currently a director of STPK. Previously, he was an investment banker at Citigroup’s Global Corporate and Investment Bank. Mr. Daley also currently serves on the boards of directors of Star Peak Corp II, Double Eagle Energy III, LLC, Vesper Energy Development LLC, and DoublePoint Energy, LLC. Mr. Daley earned a B.S. in Finance with High Honors from the University of Illinois.

Michael C. Morgan

Michael C. Morgan is the Chairman of Star Peak Energy Transition Corp. In 2008, Mr. Morgan co-founded Triangle Peak Partners, LP, a multi-strategy asset management firm focused on venture capital and growth equity, and he currently serves as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Morgan also currently serves as the lead director of Kinder Morgan, Inc., one of North America’s largest energy infrastructure companies, where he previously headed corporate development and completed acquisitions worth over $5 billion. Mr. Morgan currently serves on the board of directors of Sunnova Energy International, Inc. and Star Peak Corp II, and frequently volunteers at Stanford University. Mr. Morgan received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, and B.A. in Economics and an M.A. in Sociology from Stanford University.

Anil Tammineedi

Anil Tammineedi is a Principal at Angeleno Group and leads the firm’s investments across various sectors including smart transportation, energy efficiency and energy storage. Previously, he gained several years of operating experience at Broadcom, where he worked in product development and management roles related to semiconductors targeting communications, mobile and power management applications. Tammineedi’s prior investing experience includes his work at Applied Ventures, the corporate venture group of Applied Materials. Tammineedi holds an M.S. from Iowa State University and an M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, where he was a recipient of the Gloria Appel award for his contributions to the Entrepreneurship program. He is also a Kauffman Fellow.

Lisa L. Troe

Lisa L. Troe is a Senior Managing Director of Athena Advisors LLC, a business advisory firm she co-founded that provides services in securities litigation, public company accounting, financial reporting and disclosure, auditing, compliance systems, and enterprise and risk management. Previously, Ms. Troe was a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting, Inc., and she spent a decade serving on the staff of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Pacific regional office, including seven years as an Enforcement Branch Chief and six years as Regional Chief Enforcement Accountant. Ms. Troe serves as a director and the audit committee chair of Magnite, Inc., and has served on private company boards as a director and audit committee chair. Ms. Troe received her B.S. in Business Administration with honors from the University of Colorado.

Laura D’Andrea Tyson

Laura D’Andrea Tyson is a Distinguished Professor of the Graduate School and Professor Emeritus at the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. Since 2007, she has been the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Blum Center for Developing Economies. She is currently a board member of the CBRE Group, Inc., Lexmark International Inc., and Apex Swiss Holdings Sarl, among others. Dr. Tyson was a member of President Bill Clinton’s cabinet from 1993 to 1996 and was the first woman to serve in the position of Chair of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors and Director of the White House National Economic Council. Dr. Tyson received her B.A. from Smith College and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT.

Jane Woodward

Jane Woodward is a Founder and Managing Partner of MAP Energy, one of the longest-standing private energy investment fund management firms in the U.S., which sold its renewable energy and energy storage assets under management to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) in December 2020. Ms. Woodward is also an adjunct professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University and has over 30 years’ experience developing and teaching energy classes at Stanford, where she also serves on the Precourt Institute for Energy Advisory Council. Ms. Woodward received her B.A. in Geological Sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and holds a master’s degree in Applied Earth Science and M.B.A. from Stanford University.
