Stem’s environmental strategy is fundamentally aligned with our mission to maximize the environmental value of energy assets through AI-driven optimization. In 2024, we achieved a transformative milestone: evolving from a hardware-centric business model to a software-first approach. This strategic shift has dramatically reduced our direct environmental footprint while exponentially amplifying our positive climate impact across 55 countries worldwide.
Managing 30 GW of solar and 1.8 GWh of storage globally means every optimization creates meaningful impact—not just for operational excellence, but for the planet’s future. Our AI continuously optimizes clean energy performance around the clock, minimizing downtime and ensuring millions of kilowatt-hours of clean energy reach the grid that would otherwise be replaced by fossil fuel generation.
Stem is a values-based company dedicated to fostering ethical and transparent business practices. Our values guide our daily decisions and long-term strategy, shaping how we design our products, serve our customers, develop our people, and engage with our communities. By living these values authentically, we create an environment where employees are challenged, trusted, and able to make a meaningful impact together as One Stem.
Stem strives to conduct our business with the highest ethics, integrity, and compliance standards. Our dedication to sustainability extends beyond environmental stewardship to encompass ethical business practices and adherence to regulatory requirements. We respect the privacy of our customers, employees, and business partners and comply with data protection and privacy laws applicable to our business.
Our comprehensive governance framework includes our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, which every employee must acknowledge and uphold. In 2024, 100% of Stem employees completed Code of Conduct training, and we maintained zero data breaches and zero monetary losses from ethics-related legal proceedings.
Stem is a crucial participant in global decarbonization efforts, delivering AI-powered technology and services that maximize the value of renewable energy assets worldwide. Our integrated PowerTrack™ Suite and comprehensive managed services enable customers — from Fortune 500 corporations to utilities and developers — to unlock the full potential of their clean energy portfolios.
Through advanced control capabilities including frequency management and voltage support, we enable higher renewable energy utilization rates, reduce curtailment, and provide clean energy during peak demand periods when grid emissions are typically highest. Our platform delivers critical grid services that support stability as renewable penetration increases, while reducing operating expenses and improving energy production — proving that environmental responsibility and economic performance go hand in hand.
We’re not just managing energy assets — we’re unlocking energy intelligence that accelerates the global transition to sustainable power.
Our solutions and services are designed with endurance in mind, as they are often expected to remain a critical and resilient component of the world’s electrical grid infrastructure for many years to come. As a result, we view total asset lifecycle management and responsible stewardship important considerations for our customers and stakeholders.
We engage our original equipment manufacturing partners to identify opportunities to reduce the inputs needed to produce high quality, reliable products while integrating recycled materials where possible. We are also developing strategies with our supplier partners to repurpose and recycle certain components to contribute to a more sustainable supply chain.
Our industry-leading asset management software enhances the operational lifetime value of our customers’ storage and solar projects by using our extensive data on operational performance to predict hardware issues, dispatch maintenance, and repair systems to extend their useful life.
We use best practices to architect and select systems for use after their end-of-life. We train our employees, educate our customers, and engage our partners with system respect to decommissioning, end-of-life considerations, and second life options that include reusing and recycling hardware.
We promote recycling and preventing waste from our business operations through active compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. We work with Battery Recyclers of America to certify that applicable material – including Lithium-Ion and Polymer batteries – are appropriately recycled in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Stem’s Green Finance Framework aligns with our sustainability priorities as well as our funding and strategy.
